Nav,
It never hurts to ask about it, but my understanding is most ladies with BRCA genes have had mothers, sisters and grandmothers get the disease quite young. Not sure that they would test for it without history of close rellies.
You definitely need to check with the experts though, there are people who deal with familiar genes attached to cancer care centres and BC centres or ask your surgeon or onc.
BRCA1 triple neg
Actually Janette, I haven't - grandmother died recently at 94, the other died at 75
my mum is 65 - had things removed but all B9
Aunty is 65
So there is no history at all. Am I just unlucky - maybe searching for reasons?
But if I had the gene, I would rather know now.
I know there are issues with insurance etc after testing positive to this but
i dont have daughters and also at this stage there are no other females other
than my and I in our immediate family. (my 2 brothers and all our children are males)
Read further that 80% of BRCA1 BC is triple neg.

BRCA1 triple neg
I know we have been discussing this on another thread.
But have been reading on US site, that if you have BRCA1 your Bc can start as hormone +
and can mutate to neg before discovered. ???? So thats explaining why some are having ovaries removed
even if they have triple neg BC but have BRCA1.
Apparently Dr Susan Love has written about this. Interesting.
Dont know if its worth having the test, but the stats are showing the majority of ppl with Triple
Neg BC are African American woman or caucasian under or around 40.
Its strange that this accounts for only 15% of BC dx but I am meeting so many young ladies that
are triple neg. e.g. At dinner at my place there were 7 of us and 3 triple negs.
Is it worth getting BRCA tested ?? it may explain so many young triple neg dx's
