"Feel Good" gentle exercise program for women (All Welcome)
A session of gentle exercise to tone the whole body and help the lymphatic system. Conducted by a qualified instructor, the program helps maintain upper body mobility, flexibility and a smile. Sessions are open to all ages.
Dates: Wednesday the 4th and 18th of February, Wednesday the 4th and 18th of March and Wednesday the 1st, 15th and 29th of April.
Time: 10.30am - 11.30am.
Women need to register and complete enrollment forms prior to attending so contact BreaCan for details by phone on 1300 781 500 or email.

Introductory Hand & Foot Reflexology Sessions
Reflexology is a system of health care, incorporating mind, body and spirit. It offers tangible benefits to those living with a diagnosis of cancer and complements existing treatments. Jennifer Rigby is a reflexologist and registered nurse offering an opportunity to alleviate some of your stress and tension. Please ring and speak to one of our volunteers about accessing an appointment.

Bellydancing
Bellydance is a joyous dance style that suits all women - you are never too old, unfit or uncoordinated to give it a try! Come along to this special workshop and connect again with your feminine, creative self. Professional bellydancer Jewel, will present a brief history of bellydance, perform for you plus teach you some beautiful new moves. The workshop will be paced to suit all attendees - no particular level fitness or previous experience necessary.

Menopausal Madness: Myth or Reality?
Is it hot in here or is it just me? Women often talk about the challenges of menopause as a result of chemotherapy. Dr Geraldine Goss, an experienced oncologist, will talk about her study on menopause and the way it has been viewed by the medical profession over the last one hundred years. So come along and be enlightened about all those myths and realities.

A Stitch in Time ... Sashiko (sar-shee-ko)
Lea O'Sullivan, owner of Japanese fabric and textile business Kimono House, will teach us the basics of Sashiko, a decorative form of Japanese embroidery. Come and learn this very relaxing technique of hand stitching and create a small piece to take home. No sewing experience necessary.

Chemobrain
Some women who receive adjuvant chemotherapy for cancer complain that their ability to think clearly has been reduced since treatment began. Research into this topic is growing and there is now stronger evidence that subtle changes in thinking may occur in some women. However the reason for this is still not clear. Professor Paul Maruff (Centre for Neuroscience, University of Melbourne) will discuss some of the more recent findings of studies of the relationships between cancer, chemotherapy and brain function.

Who is the Health Services Commissioner?
Beth Wilson's long-standing interest in medico/legal and ethical issues culminated in her becoming the Health Services Commissioner in 1997. In her role she receives and resolves complaints about health service providers with a view to improving the quality of health services for everybody. Listen to Beth talk about what she does, the range of issues she deals with and learn more about your rights as a health consumer.

Understanding Palliative Care? (A session for women living with advanced disease only)
The focus of palliative care is on managing symptoms, quality of life, and comfort, including physical, emotional, spiritual and social support. Some common questions are; how can it benefit me?, how do I know when to use it?, what support is available to my family? Dr Scott King is a Palliative Care physician from Wantirna Health. He will draw on his experience to explain the services available and answer your questions. As part of this session, women with advanced cancer will speak about the benefits they have experienced through accessing palliative care services.

Sleeping Soundly
People with cancer face a range of significant physical and emotional stressors and the large majority will experience sleep problems at some point during their cancer experience. Justine Diggens, Clinical Psychologist from Peter Mac, will talk about what contributes to sleep problems, what happens when we are sleep deprived, cancer specific factors that contribute to sleep loss and some strategies to get that good night’s sleep!

‘Here and Now' program for women with advanced cancer

‘Here and Now' is an 8-week program co-facilitated by two experienced professional group leaders. Depending on the participants, the weekly sessions are conducted either face-to-face or via phone participation (teleconferenced so that women can participate from the comfort of their own home). The program offers an opportunity to discuss a range of issues including grief and loss, intimacy and sexuality, death and dying, talking with family and friends.
