Opportunities to Participate

Personalised Cancer Medicine at RMH
The clinical trials program at the Royal Melbourne Hospital includes early phase drug trials and molecular profiling targeted towards people with advanced / metastatic cancer (including breast and gynaecological cancers). Part of this program is the capability to test each patient’s cancer for 48 of the most important cancer genes. By doing this the hope is to find “driver” genetic changes that can be matched to targeted treatments on clinical trials.
To find out more about this program, please contact clinic secretary Elizabeth.Jessup@mh.org.au or on 9342 4609.
We also invite you to attend an information session at BreaCan (date to be confirmed).

Understanding the needs of adolescents who have experienced maternal breast cancer
The ‘Adolescent Adjustment to Maternal Breast Cancer’ (AMBC) study seeks to understand the experience of adolescents between 14 and 19 years of age who have a mother diagnosed with breast cancer in the past 24 months. It focuses on identifying adolescent support needs and the coping strategies that helps their adjustment. The AMBC is an international study carried out by the research team at the National University of Ireland Galway. For more information contact www.ambcstudy.wordpress.com.

MAKING CONNECTIONS
Events For Women Living With Advanced Breast Cancer and Gynecological Cancer

Simple Self-Care Techniques
Thursday 26 June, 11am - 12:30pm
Join Bernadette Voss, BreaCan’s reflexologist, for a practical session trying out a number of self-care techniques that you can use yourself at home or wherever you are. It’s useful to have some easy methods up your sleeve to nurture yourself when dealing with stress, side-effects and fatigue. Bernadette will talk about and show you some techniques including ear and hand reflexology, tapping (tapping with fingers on the body not your feet!), and use of aromatherapy oils.

We will also provide some morning tea, so take the opportunity to come along and connect with other women living with advanced cancer. Book online or Email a request to attend this session

Early Phase Drug Trials and Molecular Profiling

Part of this program is the capacity to test each person’s cancer for 48 of the most important cancer genes. In doing this, the hope is to find ‘driver’ genetic changes that can be matched to targeted treatments on clinical trials. Book online or Email a request to attend this session

News: Two trials recruiting

Paragon is a phase II study to investigate whether aromatase inhibitors improve outcomes for women who have oestrogen receptor positive or progesterone receptor positive recurrent or metastatic gynaecological cancers, including epithelial ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, endometrial stromal sarcomas, and granulosa cell/sex cord stromal tumours.

The PALOMA-2 trial aims to determine if giving Letrozole together with a new drug, Palbociclib, an oral CDK 4/6 inhibitor), is more effective than Letrozole alone. It is suitable for women with advanced breast cancer that is sensitive to the hormone oestrogen. To take part in this clinical trial women must not have received any other treatment for advanced breast cancer.

For more information about either of these trials visit www.australiancancertrials.gov.au.
