Come to hear Carole Renouf, NBCF CEO, discuss how NBCF is using your donations to advance our knowledge and understanding of breast cancer. NBCF-funded researcher, Dr Anneke Blackburn from the Australian National University, will join us to discuss the latest developments in her research into drugs that kill breast cancer cells by cutting off their energy supply.

All cells need energy to survive but cancer cells use energy in ways that differ from normal cells. Dr Blackburn from the Australian National University believes this could be the key to developing new cancer treatments.

Supported by both NBCF and Cancer Australia, Dr Blackburn and her team are using a strategy called ‘Targeting of Two Aspects of Metabolism’ (TOTAM) to upset the energy balance, or metabolism, of cancer cells. This approach uses one drug to force the cancer cells to use a particular energy pathway. Another drug is then used to specifically target and kill cancer cells that use the energy source.

Dr Blackburn will be joined by Carole Renouf, NBCF CEO, at the Canberra National Research Road show to discuss this research and how it has the potential to be adapted quickly for cancer treatment to benefit patients.
