The following research project is being conducted by Rebecca Conning from Latrobe University. The research has the approval of the Latrobe University Human Research Ethics Committee. Double Prophylactic Mastectomy and the Social Relations of Medical Technology in the Genomic Age

This research will explore decision processes surrounding prophylactic mastectomy and related social experiences of women at high risk of familial breast cancer. It is intended that this research will inform recommendations for improved support services.
Younger women (aged 18-40) living in Victoria, who are at high risk of familial breast cancer and have not been diagnosed with cancer, are invited to join the study. Participation entails an interview of approximately 60-90 minutes duration. Personal opinions, experiences and decisions in regard to familial breast cancer and its prevention will be discussed.
