A record bid that gets real support

UNWANTED, unloved or just the wrong size, those sometime sexy essentials of the female wardrobe are being donated to support a new challenge.
Bras of all cup sizes, colours and dimensions large ones and small ones are being sent to a new home. All in the name of breast cancer research.
Up to 400 of them will grace the corridors of Contours fitness studio at Neutral Bay before being taken at the end of February to Bundaberg in Queensland.
There, they will be measured end to end for the longest ``bra bridge'', covering more than 111 kilometres, in an attempt to beat the record listed in the Guinness World Records, which is currently held in Cypress.
Contours manager Cherie Dillon said the studio was keen to take part in the event, supporting the McGrath Foundation in raising awareness and much-needed funds for breast cancer.
``Our goal is to collect about 400 bras and about 220,000 are needed from around Australia in order to measure the bridge,'' she said.
In December the studio held a Christmas party and raised about $4000 for the foundation and its research.
``We have had members who have had breast cancer and this is another way of helping to support them. The money raised by this campaign will be put towards supplying more breast care nurses as currently there is a chronic shortage of them.''
She said Jane and Glenn McGrath would be in Queensland on February 24 to start measuring the bra bridge.
``This is a great chance for women on the Lower North Shore to get involved in the fight against breast cancer and help raise the 120,000 bras needed for this fun challenge,'' Ms Dillon said.
Anyone wanting to donate these surplus items should drop them into Contours Fitness Studio, Level 1, 184-186 Military Rd, Neutral Bay,
or phone 9953 3222.
