Yes, I've been to Crawford Lodge and when I first thought I'd have chemo I borrowed a nice wig from them and I also made myself several hats, but when I changed my mind about the chemo I returned the wig of course and also donated the hats I'd made.
And yes, I know where I will take my post op and mastectomy bras, but it's just that no one ever suggested to me that they could be donated. I thought about it myself and made my own enquiries....I just thought that perhaps breast care nurses could make the suggestion to ladies at some time, that this was an option for them if/when they didn't need these things anymore.
After you've done with your BC garments....

Phyllis, you could always contact the Cancer Council and ask.
Not talking about bras or prosthesis', but the Wig Library just behind Charlie Gardiner Hospital - I think it is in a building called Crawford Lodge (just at the end of Hampton Road in Nedlands) they will happily receive any wigs or scarves/turbans people no longer require.

Ok....hadn't thought of it that way....but who would suggest it to people, or are ladies like me and just wonder about what to do with these things themselves. Surely someone should suggest donations to women. I've heard of women having a....ceremonial burial...of their prosthesis....which I guess is fine for them emotionally if that's what they feel they need to do, but it seems such a waste to me.

Hi Anne,
Your thread is fine here.
I think lots of members in the past have rehomed these items to other members, but certainly worthwhile knowing.

After you've done with your BC garments....
Not sure if this is the right place to post this...mods can adjust if necessary please.
Just wondering what you ladies do with you prosthesis and other BC garments after you're finished with them.... I believe it's possible to donate these things to ladies in places like Bali and Indonesia where they have NOTHING . I think you have to contact your local BC Council and they can collect them for you and distribute the items where they are needed.
I think it's a nice idea to help others less fortunate if we can.
Cheers, Anne
