Hi ladies,
A few things have brought me here today and wanted to check up on some old friends.
Has anyone heard from B in the past year or know how she's going? I've lost her number so haven't been able to contact her.
Love to all of you,
Sam xx

Re: Belinda
That optimism is there and that's great - might be a speck at the moment but that's better than none. I hope that it sticks around and you can find some peace of mind and take it day at a time.

Re: Belinda
Hi again
Thanks again for all of your encouragement. Feeling better every day, and finding my optimisim again, it's a weak pulse but it's there.
Christine - It is a long way back, but I am pretty sure Abraxane treated me better than the Gemcarbo combo - Gemcarbo didn't make my hair fall out, though. But I had to stop the Gemcitabine, for me it sent me into that misery spiral that I have only really experienced on A/C.
Abraxane does cause hair loss, and I recall having a few dizzy episodes, a bit of neuropathy - all the things you'd get with any taxane. But it is a nano-particle version of taxol which I think makes it a bit more targeted. It is, from memory, a small bag but a very slow infusion, and the flush after is also slow. I am probably telling you things you know already, though.

Re: Belinda
Hi Belinda,
Thanks for your kind words, I have crossed paths with so many amazing ladies through this forum. I continue to learn so much from those doing it so tough. So much about love, commitment, and strength and the things that matter.
This is quoted from Lucinda with her permission.
"I have to say, that I know many things are possible if only we take the focus off the bad things of cancer and MS, stop our fears by calmness, and use the strength of our minds and hearts to meditate, visualize and believe in strong Hope. Drugs are one thing to control cancer but our spirits are so much greater than drugs, and happiness, calmness and peace are the drugs of life which bring Miracles"
I'm so glad you're at home Belinda, Pal Care do offer a wonderful service. I really hope you're able to improve dramatically and chemo really obliterates the tumours again. Gosh I wish for you the calmness that Lucinda mentions and being able to breathe more easily. I also want you to live to be an old lady.

Re: Belinda
Thanks for update Belinda, sounds like Palcare is really looking after you. I got all those forms about 2 years ago!
Hey the reason i am on Xeloda/Tykerb was because i wanted to try something other than Herceptin. I just missed the TDM1 trial due to liver markers and the X/T had it back where it should have been for trial, after one cycle!! TDM1 is just another form of Herceptin.
Good luck my dear with whatever you chose xo
PS how did u find Carboplatin and Gem'bine compared to Abraxane?? Made u sicker?? Just info for my head xoxo

Re: Belinda
well great to see you at home. Seems like it will be all managed well with Palcare and services. I think its so important that things can function normally in the house as much as possible. Good to see Ken stepping up with some tricks up his sleeve so lets hope like hell that it works for you and you have a lot more time to enjoy your precious family. Sending a huge hug.

Re: Belinda
Hi everyone.
Ruth, thanks for starting this thread.
I am at home now, hooked up to an o2 concentrator - much more reassuring that bottles, no need to worry about it running out. I am feeling calmer today, trying to focus on putting one foot forward at a time, rather than catastrophising the future.
Step 1 - get home - check
Step 2 - stay well and get my head together and keep it that way until the broncho laser procedure - work in progress
Step 3 - heal from the broncho laser procedure and restart chemo
I had a long chat with my Oncologist today. He thinks the fact that the tumour is growing despite Herceptin treatment just means it needs another agent to help it - he has had ppl try a new combo and it kicks off a good response and gets more distance out of herc.
We worked through the response to Abraxane that I had in 2011. At that stage I had a mediastinum full of enlarged nodes, a lung tumour and a tumour/hole in my sternum 3cm across. My sternum was treated with radiation for pain, but everything else shrank back to normal size and the lung tumour was - it says in the report - "obliterated".
I then had 18 good months before the next recurrence. I am thinking more that I will go this route, and Ken (onc) says he'll monitor me closely and if in the very short term we are not starting to see a response we will try something like TDM1.
Meanwhile I have just entered the umbrella of Pal Care, under which there seem to be some good services - home 02, home nursing, community nursing, hospice respite, domestic assistance, equipment....I have 2 great social workers from Mary Potter Hospice, a case worker who is like a pocket rocket, and tomorrow am likely to have visits from an OT (to assess the house for rails and ramps etc), home nurse (to stick me with klexane until I get up the courage and will to stick myself), and at some stage dom care to assess home domestic support needs, and a community nurse who will be my link back to the hospice and pal care services.
Phew. It helps me to have stuff organised. The social workers even gave me all the forms I need to sort out medical advocates, instructions for my end of life care, etc - Mike, Mum and I will sit down and talk through the issues, options and so on, I value their advice and want to have hem involved in making sure the issues are covered. Would be too hard and sad for my Dad to be involved.
Anyway, that's where I'm at. thanks all of you - old friends and new! - for being here on this special board. Janette - what would we do without you, babe?
