Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

I have had the sore throat due to tube during surgery and I have also heard of a few bruises etc after surgery. Your mastectomies and recon operation would have been a very long one and what they say makes sense....a long time for your head to be in one position. At least while you are in hospital y...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

So sorry to hear about your experience and having an unsympathetic nurse doesn't help at all. It makes so much difference to have kind, helpful staff at a time when you're feeling so vunerable and in pain. I hope the pain is under control by now, although I do know how uncomfortable expanders can be...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Steph I would say that as you want to be around a D size you would be having expanders in to stretch the skin. I have only heard of much smaller getting implants straght away and very rarely. (just my opinion of course). I woke up with expanders and my first "fill" already in so not a comp...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

That is so good about clear nodes. When I was told this was when I felt able to cope. I had a complete axillary node clearance at the time of my first mastectomy. Back when I was diagnosed they didn't do SNB so it's great to know the result before you have surgery. People on here have had good outco...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Well I guess that answers a few questions for you.At least if you don't have a choice you don't have to mull over the pros and cons. That makes sense about the option to have more children... I hadn't thought of that. What was the result of your SNB?

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Great...let us know what she says. I'm sure it's the best thing to do. It's so confusing at this stage. I know when I was first diagnosed I was a bit hesitant to ask questions but I was always glad when I did. I found my medical team were always understanding and helped me a lot. There was no intern...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Yes I would definitely see my GP and /or ring your breast care nurse. It's always best to talk about these things with someone from your medical team. They can then advise you whether it's necessary to see a surgeon sooner. Public or private I think the care you get is just as good and remember you ...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Yes....waitng is the worst. Are you sure it has grown so much? I know it's hard to stop feeling and prodding. I was told that It was definitely cancer (after biospy, ultrasound etc the previous few days) on Tuesday and was operated on Thursday. I was told there was no hurry and I could wait a few we...

Re: Learning to live with Metastatic B C

Have you been spying on me? I just spent the afternoon reading a book! I have never read so much in my life as I have in the past 2 months. I did take the dog for a real workout with one of his dog friends earlier. My dog is enjoying my retirement. I Managed a couple of games of FHs as well...lol je...

Re: Learning to live with Metastatic B C

Good to see your little butterfly on here Jan but wish things were going better for you. So you have to travel to Sydney fortnightly? That's a pretty long journey. I agree...so hard to understand cancer and all that goes with it. I have never heard of cancer in the breast not being breast cancer. I ...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Hi Steph Agree with Ruth....don't have anything to do with that guy. You don't need someone like that in your life right now. People on this forum have met their partners, before BC,during treatment and some time after after diagnosis. You just never know, but I totally understand how devastating it...

Please don't worry about annoying us with your thoughts. That's what this forum is all about. You can say anything here. We have all had had the same hard time coping. I know what you mean about it being like a bad dream. I kept thinking the surgeon was going to say...we've made a mistake...got resu...

Re: Just diagnosed and freaking out.

Wow...you really are a mystery aren't you! Clear nodes is great but understandably annoying that they can't find out what causes the problems there. What is the next step? Is it up to you to decide on treatment? I hope you are given time to discuss your options with your medical team as you have so ...

Re: Just diagnosed and freaking out.

Well you still have your sense of humour! Glad that you have a breast care nurse and more importantly that you like her. Not sure about the bra thing....maybe one that will feel comfortable in after surgery? It is a bit overwhelming with all the people to see and the forms to fill in....roll on pre-...

Re: is there anyone that has forgone treatment totally and interested in alt treatment

I think on this forum we do respect other people's opinions and we are all entitled to make our own choices. I had a mastectomy and was advised by an oncologist to have chemo but my surgeon felt it was 50/50 and to weigh everything up. I decided against it and 26 years later it was the right choice ...
