Rare Side Effects

Hi all. I was told very early on that my leukemia was caused by prior chemotherapy and I have been blaming it on my uterine cancer. I recently noticed on a FB forum for AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) that there were quite a few breast cancer survivors so I looked into it further. Apparently it's actua...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Steph, I'm sorry that you are upset, it does get upsetting when they change things around, I think because we get used to the idea of what we have ahead and a change just does our heads in. Different oncologists have different ideas although I am sure they are all talking to each other and deciding ...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Steph, I found both Taxotere and Taxol caused bone pain in my feet/ankles. When I had Taxotere (for the breast cancer) it came on very quickly and it was easier to control if I took the pain killers at the very first sign of pain. When I had Taxol (for the uterine cancer) it was more like a dull ach...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Hi Steph, Good to hear you are going well. I was offered the cooling cap but could think of nothing worse than a cold head going through chemo. I did have the cooling gloves for my nails and that was bad enough. I had carbo/taxol for my uterine cancer treatment. Be sure to jump on any pain quickly a...

Re: Anemia on Femara

Sorry that I have been so remiss in updating you all and thank you for enquiring after me. I got home (to my son's place in Mt Evelyn) after being in hospital for around 76 days. I have had two treatments to try and get me into remission but they haven't worked so I am starting a new treatment on Mo...

Oh Janette you naughty girl not telling us (yes I know you don't have to, but.....) Thank goodness for a ruptured implant which means they caught it early. I'm so sorry you have had this worry hanging over your head and I wish you the best for your next scan.

Re: Anemia on Femara

Chris, the pathologist from Dorevitch rang me personally and begged me to go to hospital rather than the GP. We did this at bairnsdale and when the dr there said we needed to see the gp for a referral to a specialist we stood our ground and said that i was at too high a risk to do that. It would hav...

Re: Anemia on Femara

Hi everyone, yes the diagnosis of leukemia was confirmed and i started chemo this evening. I will be on it for seven days which is called induction and i guess if you were to compare it to breast cancer this would be the surgery part. Once my blood counts are back up they will give me another bone m...

Re: Anemia on Femara

Thank you girls. I have spoken to someone at Bairnsdale hospital and we have been advised to go straight there. I may be admitted for further testing so I'll keep you all in the loop. At the very least I think I am looking at a transfusion and a bone marrow biopsy, something I have always dreaded.

Re: Anemia on Femara

Forget about my question. I just had a call from the pathologist, yes the pathologist, she bypassed the doctor because she was so concerned about me. Apparently my white blood cells are extremely low, low like when you are having chemo and she is concerned that I might get an infection and not get t...

Anemia on Femara

Hi All, I have just had my GP's surgery running around panicking. Apparently my blood tests that I got done yesterday showed up that I have very low blood cells. Dorevitch tried to contact me last night and today my Dr tried to contact me. I was on the phone so they couldn't get through. They rang s...

Re: still miss seeing that little black cat profile pic chrismelb

When I was clearing things out before we moved I was sorting through some books and the order of service booklet for Christine's funeral fell out. I just stopped in my tracks and thought, oh Christine. I tucked it away again as I'm not ready to let that go. I found it again the other day when lookin...

Re: BRCA1, tumour found - 30 years old

Steph I don't mean to throw a cat among the pigeons but I would strongly suggest either getting a second opinion about the DIEP because I know of a lady who is now 34 weeks pregnant after having a DIEP. After reading your post I questioned her and asked her if she was ever told not to get pregnant o...
