Re: -Tributes- What the forum meant to me!
Hello to all my lovely forum friends. I too wanted to post to say how important the forum was to me, and the friendship offered to me online and in person over the years. :grouphug: It made all the difference to have a place to come for accurate information, advice and support. Buckets and bu...

Re: PET Scan Question
Eirelass, they explained to me that it shows up areas of increased metabolic activity - so yes it does show cancers in other body tissues. I had one done to stage for lymphoma, and the tumour in my breast light up light a fairground. However, another spot lit up in my right axilla, that turned out t...

Re: dropping things
:hugs: Be alert not alarmed. Yes I still have problems with fumbling things (and also crashing into things) but nowhere near as bad as it used to be, and certainly no pain associated with it. And I still think it's worse when I've got a little bit of lymphodema - it's one of my early warning signals...

What are your goals?
The new year always put me in a reflective state of mind, and I've been thinking a lot about goals. One thing I can state with certainty about my cancer experience is that it did not allow me to continue along with the same goals/script that I already had. For one thing, I don't have the same capaci...

Re: Flap Reconstruction
Janette, my understanding of the SGAP is that it hurts like a biartch - not at all like having new boobs grown in a test-tube somewhere! LOL I was thinking about this today, and i remembered that our Ruth had a tummy recon that was a variant of a TRAM (? some kind of free-flap ?) - and she wrote abo...

Re: That moment when....
Janette LOL. I admit there *might* have been some toilet-running during that period. The highly weird thing about the experience is having lumps that can be felt by other people but that turn out to be normal. That's a lot to wrap your head around after having a lump that no-one except me believed w...

That moment when....
That moment when you find a lump in your remaining breast... That moment when you decide you are NOT going to panic... That moment when you run through everything the surgeon said about recurrence rates for your type of BC in your mind... That moment when you cancel your screening mammo so you can h...

Re: Update on Christine
Chris Not great news, but it's good to hear you're clear about its value esp since your liver is doing well.
As to our daughters - I secretly suspect they are learning the most when they seem not to be! The lessons we push against are the ones we usually learn the best. xxx

Re: picc line or port
Carolyn, I had a port placed under a GA. Had they suggested a local, I would have strenuously resisted that. It was attached fairly securely to the tissue underneath it, low enough not to be too visible over my clothing. However, once in it was a little tender but not overly painful.

Re: Where can I get compression sleeve in Adelaide
Leeanne, I had a compression sleeve supplied by the physiotherapy department at the RAH. It was a bit of a wait to get in the first time, but then it was pretty quick. I don't think it was a custom made one though. I think my GP wrote the referral to get me in there. My lymphodema's very mild so I d...

Re: What am I in for?
Rads can affect the skin/tissue, so there can be some flow-on effects for recon. It doesn't mean you can't have a recon, but the surgeon might need to use a different technique. One of our members Jay66 had a recon done with quite extensive rads scarring, and she got a great result. I'm sure you'll ...

Re: Long Time No See
Kerri! I was just thinking about you last week, wondering how you're getting on. Sorry to hear you had a scare, so relieved that it's not cancerous. Anyway it's lovely to hear from you, you've got my number if you ever want to catch for a coffee or whatever. Take care. xxx MD
